The Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology's weekly Plant Pathology 250 seminar series is presented this week by Mohammad Arif, Associate Professor, University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.

Seminar Title: "NextGen Plant Pathogen Diagnostics"

Biography: Dr. Mohammad Arif is an Associate Professor of Phytobacteriology at the Department of Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences,  University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is originally from India, and did his BS in Agriculture, MS in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, PhD in Biosciences and  PG diploma in Bioinformatics.

Dr. Arif and his team works on bacterial phylogenomics and evolution, water/endophytic microbiome and advanced molecular diagnostics. Dr. Arif has an extensive experience developing diagnostic and microbial forensic tools for high consequence pathogens, including  the select agents, and works in close collaboration with APHIS.

In his talk, Dr. Arif will introduce with current technologies and challenges in plant pathogen  diagnostics and its future with the advancement of new technologies.
